The Alberta Society of Artists was founded in 1931 making it the oldest society of juried professional artists in the province. In her book ”Alberta Society of Artists - The First Seventy Years”, Kathy E. Simon describes the often turbulent early years, influenced by the first two presidents, A.C. Leighton and H. G. Glyde. Their traditional academic aesthetic often clashed with the emerging expressionism and abstraction of artist such as Maxwell Bates, John Snow and Marion Nichol. Much of Alberta’s visual arts heritage can be found beginning with these driving forces and with so many more ASA member artists that followed. Each of our ASA members brings their own special talents to our society that is distinctively individual and diverse in artistic expression. This diversity comes together in the ASA as it strives to enhance the recognition of the importance of visual arts in Albertan and Canadian life.

At the Canadian Intensive Care Foundation (CICF), we raise funds for life-saving intensive care research and education. Saving lives in a crisis situation is what we are all about. At any time - regardless of age, income or geography - people find themselves in need of intensive care. Here, the most desperate cases are found. Here, research and education is most valuable. Here, knowledge can have the biggest impact on who lives and who does not. Four out of five ICU patients survive and recover in another area of the hospital. One out of five does not - and so the reference to Five Chairs in CICF communications. We're committed to increasing medical professionals' understanding of the needs of critical care patients, and the treatments available for these patients. By providing some of the nation's leading intensive care researchers with grants, we ensure that tomorrow's most critically ill patients will enjoy better care and a greater chance of survival.

Lantern Community Church Show up and see What Happens.... Thanks for your interest in The Lantern Community Church.... If you’re like many Canadians, you don’t have a high view of church. In fact, when someone mentions the word, you think “boring” or “irrelevant”. At The Lantern, we’d like the opportunity to change your mind. First and foremost, we’d like you to discover, like we have, that knowing Jesus ushers you into a full life—one seasoned by grace, inspired by truth and rich in hope. Second, we’d like you to know that a church really can be a vibrant and world transforming community. In fact, being a part of it can feel a lot like family. Are you skeptical? Do you have “big”questions? That’s okay. Many people do. That’s why on Sunday morning we try to provide a casual atmosphere (including bagels and coffee!) in which you can explore your “God” questions. If you have kids, they’ll love our family oriented worship which includes songs, puppets and stories. Check us out. You may just change your mind about church. The Lantern is a member of the Christian Reformed Church.
