Our mandate is to: Provide protection to investors from unfair, improper and fraudulent practices and, Foster fair and efficient capital markets and confidence in capital markets The OSC also regulates various types of capital market participants. These participants include individuals and companies advising on or trading in securities or commodities futures (unless under an exemption), public companies, investment funds, self-regulatory organizations, clearing agencies and marketplaces. The history of the OSC dates back to 1928 with the introduction of securities legislation – the Security Frauds Prevention Act – by the Government of Ontario. In 1932, the province’s securities regulator, the Security Frauds Prevention Board, was renamed the Ontario Securities Commission.
