Surex Community Services was created in 1980 as a pilot project to repatriate individuals who had long resided in Huronia Regional Centre (Orillia, ON). This was the first attempt in Ontario at integrating institutionalized people with severe disabilities into community based services. This pilot project marked a significant change and direction for the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services. The success of this project led the way to a provincial policy and strategy to significantly downsize provincially operated institutions and eventually close all institutions. The last institution was closed on March 31, 2009. Surex played a vital role in confirming that people with disabilities could live and work in the community. National Council of Canadian Tamils is a Not-For-Profit-Organization built by delegates elected by Tamils from districts across Canada. The birth of this institution came about in order to provide for Canadians a unified democratic voice for the perpetuation of the Tamil community within Canada and also to actively advocate for the voiceless Tamils of Sri Lanka. NCCT is registered as Not-For-Profit-Organization with both Federal and Provincial governments of Canada. Canadian-Tamils took a historic stride on June 20th 2010, by pioneering and electing a nationwide organization, the National Council of Canadian Tamils (NCCT), run for Canadian-Tamils at a grassroots level, dedicated to raising awareness of the important issues facing Tamils domestically and internationally.

Our Story Established in 2005, New Circles is a not-for-profit social service agency that helps residents of Flemingdon Park, Thorncliffe Park and Victoria Village who need our support. New Circles was founded on two programs, the Clothing Program and Holiday Angel Program, which continue to be cornerstones of the work we do today. Our founder and Board of Directors member, Cindy Blakely envisioned a welcoming space, where low income residents could access basic necessities with dignity and respect. New Circles continues to meet that vision and has expanded to include a range of programs offering connections and opportunities for skills development to community members. Taste of Asia is the Largest Asian Street Festival in Canada, This annual non-profit community street festival hosts over 100, 000 attendees annually with food, vendors, live stage shows, concerts, competitions, contests and much more. Each summer, our vendors offer a vast variety of entertainment, information, activities and Asian cuisine to our visitors.
