Four of our houses, our apartments, and our Office are in the east end of Winnipeg (Transcona) and are all within walking distance of each other. Our two other homes are closer to downtown Winnipeg (in Windsor Park and St. Boniface). Jean Vanier describes the foundation of L’Arche in the following video: Winnipeg is a city of approximately 670, 000 people, and is the longitudinal centre of Canada. More than 60% of Manitoba’s population live in the capital city, which is the 7th largest municipality in Canada. We belong to the Western Canada Region of L’Arche, along with other L’Arche Communities in Saskatoon, Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge, Comox and Vancouver. Our Region is part of the L’Arche Canada Zone in the International Federation of L’Arche which is comprised of communities located in 36 different countries. Many people, inspired by Jean Vanier’s vision, are interested in hearing about L’Arche Winnipeg and L’Arche Tova Café. People are often looking for ways to live out their faith in their daily lives and L’Arche communities provide unique examples of how this can be embodied on a practical level. Being able to tell our stories in the larger community is also critical as we seek to recruit new assistants, volunteers and sponsors both in Winnipeg and around the world.

We are a community of Lutheran Christians called and gathered by God in Christ. Here joyfully God’s Word is proclaimed and the Sacraments administered. We serve in the northeast corner of Winnipeg. Many of our members live in East and North Kildonan, Elmwood, and Transcona. We are of all ages and all stages of life. We offer ministries that are both age and interest-specific and that cross generations and interests. Jubilee Mennonite Church is a congregation of about 130 people who are committed to: Reach out with God's Good News; Serve in Jesus' name; Know one another in loving community; Grow into spiritual maturity; Worship God with all we have and are. People who attend Jubilee are young and old; many of us are in our 50s and many in our 20s; some of us are older than that and some younger. We are students, builders, teachers, homemakers, retirees, doctors, nurses, artists and many other professions. Some of us have come recently to Canada; others have lived here for many generations. In short, we are typical of the people in our community. We are followers of Jesus who are shaped by and committed to the Anabaptist stream of the evangelical Protestant church. Donwood Manor Personal Care Home (as it is known today) was built in North Kildonan in 1970 with a capacity of 81 beds. A renovation project completed in 1996 resulted in an expanded and improved environment for residents totaling 121 beds. Donwood Manor Elderly Persons Housing, a 150 unit complex was constructed in 1974 and adjoined Donwood Manor Personal Care Home. In 1982, Donwood South, a 104 apartment complex was built on Henderson Highway with amenities to provide comfortable accommodations for independent seniors. Donwood West, a 60 unit life lease complex, was built in 1988. Donwood West is a non-profit corporation owned and operated by Donwood West Inc. In 1997 the construction of the 48 unit, 55+ Life Lease complex was completed. Valhalla Cove is a 55+ Life Lease Complex. Valhalla Cove is a non-profit corporation that is sponsored by Donwood Management Inc.
