David Bergmann Chef and Proprietor Upon Completion of the Chef’s Apprenticeship Program at Red River Community College, David Bergmann worked for six years with Tim Appleton, Chef Member of the Canadian Culinary National Team. Starting out as an apprentice and working his way up to Sous Chef, David developed a globally influenced style, with a focus on Canadian ingredients. “At a young age I developed a real love and passion for food and cooking. It is a privelege to be able to work in an environment with dedicated staff who feel the same way I do.” stated David. David participated in many Culinary Competitions and further pushed his limits, leading him to eventually start his own catering company. “Preparing and doing well at a competition is great and very rewarding, but after starting my own business I soon realized that striving to do the best for our clientele is my everyday competition, and that is extremely rewarding. ” Today, Bergmann’s on Lombard caters more than 350 events per year, both at their downtown location in the historic Grain Exchange Building, and at offsite locations around Winnipeg; providing excellence in food and service for wedding, corporate and private dining occasions. In his life, Dinesh (Doug) Arora has been a junior scientist, a pharmaceutical salesman and a prosperous garment manufacturer; but nothing has brought him more pleasure than the title of restauranteur. Founder and owner of the traditional Indian restaurant Ivory, Doug has translated his passion for high-quality cuisine in to one of Winnipeg’s most popular ethnic food destinations. “If you are looking to try a new kind of food you should always try it at the best place so your experience is second to none, ” explains Arora while dining on a freshly made piece of naan bread and bowl of lentils. “When I opened the restaurant 10 years ago I wanted people to try Indian food at the best place. I did a lot of research on different Indian restaurants and I didn’t see any that I thought would fit the modern customer who seeks healthy choices, quality food and professional atmosphere. So...I started from scratch.” What resulted was a bright, contemporary, upscale restaurant and lounge in Winnipeg’s downtown, right across from the Forks, with a menu he designed from scratch. Utilizing his knowledge of quality-cuisine and fine chefs direct from India, Arora developed a traditional menu made with premium ingredients.
