Life After Fifty offers classes and activities in two different locations in the city of Windsor - in both the East and West ends of the city, in order to be as accessible as possible to the community. Our West End centre is located on McEwan Avenue and our East End centre is located on the first floor of the WFCU Centre on McHugh Street. In keeping with our wellness and health promotion policies, both facilities are smoke-free and fragrance-free. In addition to offering classes and activities at both of our Windsor locations, Life After Fifty is quite active out in the community as well. From days spent attending the local Windsor International Film Festival or taking a day trip out to our local wineries, to volunteering at local Spitfires games, our members are very active and engaged in the community. Today, Life After Fifty is funded by the United Way Centraide of Windsor-Essex County, the City of Windsor, the Ministry of Health - Long Term Care, through our own fund raising efforts, membership dues and service fees. We have also been supported along the way by government grants and the generosity of our local service clubs and business foundations. As we move forward, Life After Fifty will be developing new ways to meet the needs of both our current members and the up-and-coming boomer generation. The boomer generation has already begun to bring about some new perspectives as to what it means to navigate this stage in life. While maintaining good health is still a top priority, many adults today are looking for a bit more. They view this stage in life as an opportunity to reinvent themselves, renew their outlook on life and generally work to achieve a profound sense of fulfillment and personal wellness. Life After Fifty is committed to continuing to find ways to offer new and exciting opportunities and tools that will help our members thrive in this exciting stage of life.

Transplantation was still experimental. It was during this time that a young Montreal architect, Morty Tarder, died from kidney disease. Confronted with their son’s death, the Tarder family vowed to start an organization that would raise money for research into this poorly understood disease. In 1964, The Kidney Disease Foundation of Canada, as it was known then, was created in Montreal. Today, the Kidney Foundation of Canada is the national health charity committed to kidney health and to improved lives for all people living with kidney disease. Our vision for the future is an enduring legacy of those dedicated volunteers who, 40 years ago, started out with a compelling cause and the resolve to make a difference. Since 1964, our fundraising campaigns have allowed us to contribute millions of dollars to research, and to provide services to individuals living with chronic kidney disease and related conditions. In the 1960s, people with kidney failure had little hope of survival. Dialysis was considered an extraordinary treatment and restricted to very few.

Since 1982, we have been serving our Windsor-Essex County communities. As a non-profit, charitable organization, we strive to achieve excellence in our service delivery to immigrant and refugee women and their families to become full and participating members of Canadian Society. The Windsor Women Working With Immigrant Women is a multi-cultural, non-profit and community based organization. We function in an anti-oppressive, feminist and anti-racist framework. Our approach is holistic, recognizing that our clients are multi-faceted identities, and that negation of any aspect of that is detrimental to their full participation in Canadian society. We are committed to assisting women and their families with priority to immigrant, racialized, individuals with multiple barriers and youth.
