I am a senior (66 years old) and I hate being condescended to. But it happens EVERY TIME at Sobeys in Sydney River. A 20-something or 30-something goes through the cash ahead of me and they're treated respectfully. What do I get? I get "Honey," "Sweetie," and so on, and I absolutely HATE it. I've tried telling Sobeys that this bothers me, and they just ignore me. My perspective is that unless we're family, or in a romantic relationship, you don't get to use terms of endearment. I have stopped shopping at Sobeys because of this.
