We had a Psych-Ed assessment completed for our 12 y/o daughter by Dr. Hounam approximately 6 years ago. Our daughter had previously been diagnosed with Dyslexia and needed a formal assessment to receive support in high school. After the assessment was complete, we met with Dr. Hounam to review the results. She told us that our daughter would struggle with academics and should consider a vocation career or at most a limited college diploma. Later, our daughter let us know that she was happy for it to be done; the doctor had been verbally aggressive and reduced her to tears during each testing session. Our daughter was an honor roll student all 4 years of high-school, finishing grade 12 with an 89% average in the academic stream. She received early acceptance offers from 6 Universities and numerous academic scholarship offers. She is doing extremely well in her first year of a Psychology BA with no special help other than additional time. Had we listened to Dr. Hounam, and told our daughter she wouldn't be able to handle the work, she would not likely lived up to her potential. This coupled with the treatment she received while being tested leaves us with nothing positive to say.
