We are from Ottawa and our host took us to the "Roosteraunt" this past Saturday. The decor was fun but the service appalling. We understand that the restaurant was busy and maybe our server was having an off day but we suspect the two working were very new and just not very experienced. To start, our waitress took our order but forgot to ask if we wanted drinks. My Order came w/ Coffee so I expected she would be back w/ a cup and get everyone elses order, not so. We flagged her down after ten minutes and she then took our drink order. While we were waiting I noticed that the table next to us had to get up and go to the kitchen to get more tea. I figured that maybe this was a friendly restaurant and patrons do that sort of thing here. I saw at another table a gentleman get up to find his own cream for coffee, it was behind a counter. He did not look too pleased so I figured this was just due to poor service. While waiting for our food we were entertained by the hippie teens outside the window smoking. One young lady was in her underwear and being entertained by what I think was a bus boy or cook. I saw him several times come out from the kitchen so I assumed he worked there. Not the cleanest looking guy and I dont think the staff should be cavorting w/ their buddies where all the patrons can watch. The smoking girl in her underwear entertained the table next to us too...classy. Both waitresses would wash the tables but not their hands then serve drinks by grabbing them by the rim and carrying them to the tables. Thats just not very clean and who taught them serve drinks that way?!?! The food arrived and it was ok, its hard to screw up eggs and toast. My fiance enjoyed her fish and chips and the sandwich my father ate was decent. We waited for our bill but it did not arrive and the waitress never came back to check on us. My father went to the cash to pay and he waited for about 5 minutes to get served. Our server did not notice we were getting ready to leave nor that we were at the cash waiting to pay. We flagged down the other waitress and she figured our bill out for us. For the record, we were not rude, obnoxious or in anyway do anything to make the staff angry. We just came in sat down and ordered. The price was great and the decor fun but the service horrible at the Roosterant, I do not recommend this place.
