I want to write a genuine, honest review about Dr. ** and his practice. Please read carefully before seeking treatments from him.
At the time we were introduced to him, I was interested in getting braces, but made the mistake of not finding a real orthodontist. He is a FAMILY DENTIST, why did we decide to go with him? The total cost was $3500, half the price of all other orthodontists I’ve inquired about. Since I’m a cheap Asian looking for the cheapest price around, I went with him, but this was a bad mistake. I now have learned you get what you pay.
The whole process took around two years, and everything was fine up near the end. My front upper and lower left & right canine and incisors had around 0.5cm space in between. The most important aspect in all braces or invisalign technique is to fine tune the teeth to close all the gaps in the end. All he did was fill in the gaps with some temporary dental filling. He claimed this is the usual procedure, and have done this to every patient he’s had in the past.
I naively believed him, but after consultation with two other dentists after gum infection and cavity, this was obviously not the right way to do it. He either lacks competency, or was just flat out lazy. Underneath the temporary dental filling could easily trap food, and other particles, accumulating bacteria.
Second, there was also a similar 0.5cm gap between my bicuspids (premolar) and molar. After he took the braces off, I noticed the gap but Dr. ** claimed “the teeth will naturally come closer together”, and didn’t even provide a retainer for my bottom teeth. FALSE. If the premolar and molar were originally farther apart before braces, what makes you think the teeth will come naturally closer together? It won’t. Again, either laziness or lack of competency.
FINALLY, this is the most important part that has made me detest him till this day. We agreed upon the $3500 price for the treatment, period. I have my own family dentist to get my daily check ups, etc. He however, took a monthly deduction from my BC insurance. How did I find out? My family dentist has always told me how my insurance has ran out, but previously I just shrugged it off, thinking perhaps the insurance just wasn’t covering all the services my family dentist was providing. Then when I turned 19 and BC dental insurance stopped covering me, Dr. ** boldly came up to me asking if I have any other insurance. This hit me like a bolt of lightning, piecing all the missing puzzles together. We have consulted lawyers and this is FRAUD and MALPRACTICE.
What is even more frustrating, surprising, and disappointing is that he is a devoted Buddhist. Or he claims. His clinic plays all these Buddhist songs, which is cool with me, and when I visit him, all he ever talks about is trying to get me involved with Buddhism, and how holistic, and spiritual it is, etc., etc. This fraud and incompetency makes me believe all that virtues you were trying to preach were all superficial, and deep down you are the real devil.
As a healthcare provider, Dr. **, you are obligated to serve your patients with sincere care, honesty, dedication and humility. You have failed all aspects of providing adequate care to your patients, taken advantage of the faith your patient had in you and have shamed your Buddhist community, and Northwestern Dental school (you’re probably the reason why they’re shut down).
