I am writing to complain about the driving of one of your staff in Vancouver, BC, on Feb 16, 2011 at about 7:40 AM. I was driving in the right lane on Granville St. in Vancouver approaching the Arthur Liang Bridge in Richmond. The Premier Security driver in the car with the plate 784 FGH (or very close to this) was in the left lane. After we passed through the light I had overtaken him on the right, as the traffic in the right lane was moving faster. After I had overtaken him and was merging, the Premier driver sped up to tailgate the vehicle in front of him, sat in my blind sport and blocked me from merging. I was still ahead of his vehicle and he was forcing me off the side of the road. This was not expected and I had to slam on the brakes in order to avoid being forced into the bicycle lane. I might add that it was also raining heavily at the time. I later called 604-739-1893 to lodge a complaint and it was the same person that was driving the vehicle. He then began to tell me that I was passing on the right, which was illegal. So, he was allowed to force me off the road??? I don’t know where this person got his driver’s license, but last time I checked, it is permitted to pass on the right in Vancouver – see below for the regulation and the link to the bclaws.ca web site Passing on the Right 158 (1) (b). He then went on to say that I was merging, so, I was not allowed over. Now, it should be important to point out that I was ahead of his vehicle, so, he actually had to speed up and follow very closely behind the vehicle in front of him in order to sit in my blind spot to keep me out of the lane. As I could not move over, I was being forced off the road as the lane disappeared and the road began to narrow. Your driver obviously did not get his license in BC, or is completely ignorant of the rules for driving in this province; what’s worse, he is under some misguided perception that it is acceptable to force people off the road because he is in a slower moving lane and thinks that he is completely justified in almost causing an accident. Very reckless and immature. I’m not sure who handles complaints in your organization, but I would appreciate it if someone at least explained the rules of the road to this misguidedly self-righteous reckless driver. http://www.bclaws.ca/EPLibraries/bclaws_new/document/ID/freeside/96318_05 Passing on right 158 (1) The driver of a vehicle must not cause or permit the vehicle to overtake and pass on the right of another vehicle, except (a) when the vehicle overtaken is making a left turn or its driver has signalled his or her intention to make a left turn, (b) when on a laned roadway there is one or more than one unobstructed lane on the side of the roadway on which the driver is permitted to drive, or (c) on a one way street or a highway on which traffic is restricted to one direction of movement, where the roadway is free from obstructions and is of sufficient width for 2 or more lanes of moving vehicles. Passing on left 159 A driver of a vehicle must not drive to the left side of the roadway in overtaking and passing another vehicle unless the driver can do so in safety.

Premier Securities contacted me and we had a productive discussion about the incident. The organization was very professional in how it responded to my concern.
