Every woman has a leading role in her own unfolding life story. Through many years spent in fitness & dance facilities, I have heard hundreds of personal stories and realize that there are a multitude of reasons “why” women attend “class”. Some women attend when they are inspired to express inner joy and their love of dance; others when they find themselves to be in a situation which they need to understand or change. Whatever the case, it seems to me that women attend “class” in order to see themselves reflected in one another’s experience. Belly dance is a way for women to better understand themselves as it is both physically and emotionally moving. This is my personal experience of this magical, mythical, middle-eastern dance and the primary motivator for the creation of the HiP KiK Belly Dance and Fitness Studio. When a woman senses that there is a mythical dimension to something she is undertaking, that knowledge touches and inspires deep creative centres within her. I invite you to accompany us as we discover ourselves and one another through this ancient feminine art form. My name is Souhaer Zarik and I invite you to join us in the dance of self discovery.

Imagine the fusion of Ukrainian and other ethnic cultures, a diverse program of folk, classical and contemporary song, music, and dance. That’s the Shevchenko Musical Ensemble, a unique combination of mixed voice choir, mandolin orchestra and folk dancers! And although the Ensemble’s roots lie in the Ukrainian community, its repertoire includes Ukrainian, Russian and other folk songs and dances, popular operatic arias and choruses, Canadian folk and contemporary songs and music, and classical orchestral music. The Ensemble has been delighting audiences throughout Ontario and beyond for more than 55 years. Each Ensemble concert also presents outstanding instrumental and vocal soloists who perform with this unique combination of choir, mandolin orchestra and dancers.

Shadowland artists are available for: workshops in mask and puppet making, stilt-walking, lantern-making; design for theatre, puppets, and costumes; creation of spectacles, events, parades and pageants. Shadowland Theatre works with a wide range of communities to unearth their distinctive histories, creating new stories and celebrating special events. These collaborations can take place over a number of weeks or years culminating in large community shows leaving a legacy of skills and inspirations. Shadowland artists run workshops and do extended residencies to train community members in art forms that they can then make their own. Shadowland is known for animating streets, parks and communities with its bold design sensibility and raucous theatricality. Original performances incorporate masks, puppetry and spectacle arts, mostly in outdoor and non-traditional theatre spaces in urban and rural landscapes.
