Founder The Founder of the Shiatsu School of Canada, Kaz Kamiya, is a pioneer in teaching shiatsu. An accomplished practitioner of shiatsu and acupuncture, Mr. Kamiya originally worked as a tool-and-die designer in Brazil and Canada. In his mid-30's, he learned about shiatsu. He returned to his native country of Japan to study shiatsu and acupuncture and received his license after 3 years of study (1975-1978). Kamiya then apprenticed at a hospital in Japan and with Shizuto Masunaga, one of the pioneers of shiatsu therapy at Iokai Shiatsu Centre. After that, Mr. Kamiya returned to Toronto to practice shiatsu. He worked at the Shiatsu Centre before establishing the Shiatsu Clinic and the Shiatsu Education Centre in 1981. In 1986, he established the Shiatsu School of Canada in order to offer the highest standard of shiatsu training, the 2200-hour diploma program.

I am Hilding Neilson, an astrophysicist working at the University of Toronto. My research interests focus on the physics of stars from their nuclear-burning centres out to theirs surfaces where the light we see comes from and beyond to their winds and interactions with their environments. By understanding the behaviours of stars, we gain insights into the building blocks of the Universe, but the challenge is that every star appears unique, each with their own stories and secrets to discover. I use computational and theoretical tools to delve into the secrets of stars and try to learn about their place in the Universe and our night sky.

Quinn M. Konopacky is a postdoctoral researcher at the Dunlap Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics. My main research interests include star and planet formation and evolution as probed through ground based high angular resolution techniques. I am a member of the commissioning and science team for the Gemini Planet Imager (GPI, PI Dr. Bruce Macintosh (LLNL); PS Prof. James Graham (DI, UC Berkeley)). GPI, scheduled for first light on Gemini South in Chile in early 2013, is designed specifically for the purpose of directly detecting young gas giant planets orbiting nearby stars. Our science campaign team has been awarded almost 900 hours of observing to survey 600 nearby young stars over the course of 3 years (GPIES).

Pi Beta Phi was founded on August 28, 1867 at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois. Our 12 founders had a vision to form the first national secret society for women at a time when only five state universities admitted women. We pride ourselves in being the first national secret college society of women to be modelled after the Greek-letter fraternities. There are currently 135 Pi Beta Phi chapters across the United States and Canada with over 241, 000 members. Pi Beta Phi is dedicated to philanthropic and community service efforts that will remove the barrier of illiteracy. As a Chapter we hold multiple fundraisers to raise money to provide books for underprivileged children. We accomplish our goal through First Book and Pi Beta Phi Foundation. All our members volunteer regularly, working with Frontier College or the Volunteer Readers Programme.
