The MHSO started work on a two-year project, Chinese Canadian Women 1923-1967: Inspiration-Innovation-Ingenuity, thanks in large part to a significant grant from the federal government’s Community Historical Recognition Program. This project will bring together a variety of sources, including new oral history interviews that will be conducted across the country. It will culminate in an online portal that will make exhibitions, digital resources, learning materials and interactive activities available to the public. Online users will also be invited to contribute to this commemoration of the experiences of Chinese Canadian women. The MHSO publicizes, preserves and makes accessible material which demonstrates the role of immigration and ethnicity in shaping the cultural and economic development of Toronto, Ontario and Canada. Specifically, we: Operate a museum Produce publications Create exhibits Facilitate research Assist Organizations

The Department of Economics at the University of Toronto is large and highly ranked, with strengths in all fields of economics. We offer a wide range of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The department is located close to the center of the city of Toronto. The chair of the department is Arthur J. Hosios. The Department offers a variety of M.A. and Ph.D. programs. In any year, a total of about fifty new M.A. students and fifteen new Ph.D. students are enrolled. Total graduate student enrollment is approximately one hundred and there are about fifty members in our graduate faculty. The size of our program allows us to offer a wide variety of courses and specializations. Our programs attract a cosmopolitian collection of students from across Canada and all parts of the globe. Economics is by far the most popular discipline among undergraduate students enrolled in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Nearly seventy percent of all students take at least one course in economics during their undergraduate studies, and students earn more credits in economics courses than in courses in any other discipline. The Department of Economics offers a wide variety of programs to undergraduate students, ranging from the Economics Minor, Major and Specialist Programs to various joint Programs, including the very popular Specialist Program in Commerce and Finance, offered jointly with the Rotman School of Management.

In 1965, a young typesetter named Stan Bevington, newly transplanted to Toronto from Edmonton, began printing versions of the new Canadian maple-leaf flag. With the money he made hawking these flags in hippie Yorkville, he rented an old coach house and bought a Challenge Gordon platen press. With a newfound colleague, Dennis Reid (now a curator of the Art Gallery of Ontario), he printed a book of poetry by Wayne Clifford. Writers and artists soon flocked to the little coach house with their projects, bpNichol’s Journeying and The Returns and Michael Ondaatje’s The Dainty Monsters among them. Coach House has always maintained a dual role in Canadian letters by both publishing and printing books.
