Called “a brilliant little chocolate box for bibliophiles” by the Globe & Mail, Type is an independent community bookstore with two Toronto locations: 883 Queen Street West (across from Trinity Bellwoods Park), and 427 Spadina Road (in Forest Hill Village). We are a general interest bookstore, with an extensive selection of contemporary fiction, small press, art, design, and childrens’ titles. We believe in the power of the written word, and that stories are essential to building a community, which is why we frequently host events and launches for local authors and run a popular storytime program for preschoolers. We believe in the beauty of books as tactile, physical objects, and celebrate them as such. Our original window displays are widely beloved and showcase both new and classic titles.

When students arrive at the English School of Canada, the first thing that they notice is that our school is different. At ESC, we take the time to discuss and understand your needs. We know that you are coming to Canada to improve your English language skills, and our goal is to help you meet that objective. When you arrive at ESC, you will meet the Directors and have a personal orientation tour of the school. Then we work with you to assess your personal needs and objectives - you will complete a skills assessment test, and we will recommend a program and class schedule to ensure that you can meet your personal goals. Learning English includes practicing your skills outside of the classroom. Our additional Educational Services are provided so that your learning continues even after your classes.

The Pin The first and only Yiddish feature ever produced in Canada, The Pin is a haunting love story about two young adults hiding out in a barn in Lithuania during the Second World War. Filmmaker Naomi Jaye layers this simple story with rich atmospheric camera work, an eye for sensual detail, and moving performances by the two leads, who were taught to speak an impeccable-sounding Yiddish. “With limited resources and the power of storytelling, [Jaye] has created a small film that feels mainstream and epic” (The New York Times). With this special presentation, TJFF honours the uniqueness of this film and its production. Guests: Director Naomi Jaye and cast Part of REEL Ashkenaz ASL Translator will be present at screening for introduction and post-film Q & A Co-presented with: Sponsored by: Nora & Jacob Dehan Festival Welcome Thanks Support Events Resources Filmmakers Education.
