The District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board (TBDSSAB) delivers Child Care, Housing and Ontario Works services to people living in the District of Thunder Bay. TBDSSAB was established on April 1, 1999, through the enactment of the District Social Services Administration Board Act. We are one of 47 delivery agents in Ontario that is mandated by the Province of Ontario to deliver social services. Our District includes 15 member municipalities who are represented on our Board of Directors by 11 Municipally appointed representatives. Our History Kairos Community Resource Centre was incorporated in 1975 to provide residential justice services to adult offenders. In 1987, with the inception and implementation of the Young Offenders Act (YOA), Kairos transitioned it services, operating a 12 bed open custody facility for male and female youth between the ages of 16 and 17 under the Ministry of Corrections. In 2003 the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) replaced the Young Offenders Act. And the same year, the Ministry of Children and Youth Services was created to provide an integrated system of services to better serve children, youth and their families, including youth justice services. Kairos currently operates an eight bed male facility for youth 12-17 years of age under the Ministry of Children and Youth Services and in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA). Visitor Details: Only authorized visitors will be permitted entrance to the facility (807 623-1690). Family and/ or significant others are welcome and encouraged to visit and participate in their child’s care plan while at Kairos. All visitors to the facility will be required to sign an Oath of Confidentiality in order to protect the rights of all youth in the facility. All visitors will be asked to adhere to the facility visitor rules and policies.

Respite Care Benefits Everyone Our Mission Wesway provides personalized respite services. Wesway builds community partnerships and promotes inclusion through community development. Wesway envisions a model of respite support services to meet the needs of community with respect and dignity. Our History Wesway was incorporated in 1973 by a small group of volunteers from the Wesley and Wayside United churches. Although Wesway is no longer formally affiliated with the original church groups, our name still honours the tremendous contributions of our early volunteers. Our Service Area Wesway’s respite services are available in northwestern Ontario, along the corridors of Highway’s 11 and 17 from the Manitoba border to Manitouwadge. The services Wesway can offer to families varies depending on the location. Wesway's goal is to provide quality respite care to families throughout the communities we serve. Families The responsibilities of providing ongoing 24-hour care can be stressful and exhausting. Respite provides a short break for family caregivers to enjoy some personal time or simply get much needed rest. Periods of respite help sustain the strength of family caregivers so they can continue their vital role of caring for their family member at home. Participants Respite helps people with a disability or chronic health condition to continue living at home with their families. For many participants - young children, teens, adults or seniors - respite offers opportunities to socialize, pursue interests, build confidence and participate in community activities. Community Respite helps caregivers and their family members contribute to the life of the community. A flexible range of respite services helps build a stronger community with support networks that are inclusive and caring of all citizens.

We believe that each individual seeking healing at the Ka-Na-Chi-Hih Treatment Centre has the right to the programs and services, which ensure nurturing, support and empowerment to begin the journey to wellness of body, heart, mind, and spirit.
