There's two ways to approach emotional problems. One is talk it through. You sit down with a friend or better yet, a therapist and you gain some insight and feel a little better. In some cases this is sufficient. However, with this approach the relief is often temporary. That's because no real change has happened within you. You're likely seeing your situation in a new light - which is often helpful IN THE MOMENT. Following through and feeling okay when the circumstances arise AGAIN is another matter. It's not your fault. Many self help strategies depend on you "thinking differently". Our culture promotes a kind of 'just do it mentality' as if that will solve everything. As I say - it helps. But it can be tedious. And it often doesn't last. When it doesn't work out you're left feeling "well gee, what's wrong with me?" Real change is waking up each day and feeling much different than before - without trying . . . without working at it. You don't have to work at it because you're already different on the inside.
