Established in 1982, the NL Employers’ Council (NLEC) enables employers to present a strong collective voice on employer issues. The Employers’ Council is a vocal advocate for competitive taxes, competitive regulations, and fiscally responsible government budgets. Several recent successes– including the rescinding of card based union certification in 2014 and the reduction of employer workers’ compensation insurance premiums in 2013 – demonstrate our ability to act as an effective voice for the business community.

The Heather Cutler Foundation is a Canadian non-profit founded in memory of Heather Cutler, a devoted nurse from Newfoundland who faced pancreatic cancer. Her journey exposed critical gaps in cancer care, inspiring the foundation's mission to advocate for equitable access to somatic testing, clinical trials, and advanced cancer treatments. The foundation aims to raise awareness, provide educational resources, and empower patients and their families through self-advocacy. In addition to its advocacy work, the foundation is driving a national petition to urge the government to reform cancer care policies, streamline drug approvals, and ensure consistent treatment standards across Canada.

The fruit of Foundation-funded research is knowledge that now fuels many of our health promotion activities. Today (in addition to funding research on treatment) we recognize prevention as the key in the fight against heart disease and stroke. We are committed to providing significant funding to support education programs that teach the value of healthy lifestyles and early recognition of heart disease and stroke. These activities place us front and centre in large and small communities across the province. Programs like Heart to Heart and Living with Stroke, support and education programs for heart and stroke patients, and Jump Rope for Heart, an educational program that helps elementary students get active and learn about healthy lifestyles, are placing Saskatchewan people one step closer to the Foundation's dream: a future free from heart disease and stroke. Advocacy at the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan takes place on many levels. We work closely with government departments to encourage healthy public policy (for example, the national Trans Fat Task Force, seeking to reduce trans fats in our foods, legislation to protect people from second-hand smoke in public and workplaces, and the development of formal school food policies by Saskatchewan School Boards). Some of our volunteers work to encourage health care professionals to use and study new Foundation research findings and treatment protocols (for example, we are currently working to develop an integrated stroke strategy – a system of care that more effectively prevents stroke and gives stroke patients a far greater chance of survival with less disability). Other Foundation volunteers help encourage young people to be active everyday and provide programs to make it fun for them to do so. We are active in advocating for affordable and accessible facilities where survivors of stroke and heart attack can become active in preventing further episodes/deterioration of their health status.

Welcome to National Diabetes Trust, Canada's largest charitable clothing and small household goods collection service and the social enterprise of Diabetes Canada. With more than 5, 000 donation bins and an active home pick-up service in communities across Canada, we collect unwanted gently used clothing and household items to raise much-needed funds for Diabetes Canada. This helps support programs and research on behalf of the 11 million Canadians living with diabetes and pre-diabetes. But, we're more than just clothing donation collectors. We are an organization of dedicated professionals working with Canadians from coast to coast fighting to End Diabetes through waste diversion. Each year, the program diverts more than 100 million lbs. of clothing and household items from landfill sites across Canada. With your help, we can continue to support diabetes research, education and reduce our environmental impact. Schedule a pick up today!
