We are the only independent foundation dedicated to raising funds for palliative care across our region. Our community-based, region-wide mandate means that we are not tied to any particular service, care provider, government or other funding agency, letting us provide support where it is needed most. For the first time in our community, a regional plan outlining improvements in palliative care has been approved. Together, experts, caregivers and service providers from across our region have set out a vision for improvements - a vision that would see palliative care and support available to those who need it, when they need it most. With a plan for change and a commitment to make it happen, momentum is growing. However, there remains a great need for additional resources. This is where the OutCare Foundation can help. We have identified four priority areas where we know additional funding will have an impact on the availability and quality of palliative care in our region, namely: - Providing Care When and Where It is Needed; - Supporting Families, Caregivers and Volunteers; - Connecting People to Information; and - Expanding Knowledge through Education. The OutCare Foundation is dedicated to helping organizations in the palliative care network. All patients and families should receive the care they need, in the setting of their choice for their important end-of-life journey. The story of Habitat for Humanity begins in 1976 in Americus, Georgia, when Millard and Linda Fuller became concerned about the people in their area living in 'poverty housing'. Internationally, Habitat for Humanity now operates in 100 countries, has built over 200, 000 houses, and shelters 1 million children and adults around the globe. A new Habitat home is built every 8 minutes! Habitat for Humanity Canada now has affiliates in every Canadian province and Territory. Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa (Habitat GO) became an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity Canada in 1993. As one of over 60 affiliates in Canada, Habitat GO is responsible for raising its own funds, organizing volunteers and building homes for low-income, working families living in the National Capital Region. The first Habitat GO home was built in 1994.

The Amateur Skating Association of Canada was formed in 1887 and by 1914 a separate organization for figure skating had been established. This was known as the Figure Skating Department of the Amateur Skating Association of Canada and the initial members were Ottawa ‘s Minto Club and the Earl Grey Club in Montreal. The first official annual figure skating championships of Canada were held in the same year under the new organization. Louis Rubenstein was the first president, a position he held until 1930. The department became known as the Canadian Figure Skating Association (CFSA) in 1939 and in 1947 the CFSA joined the International Skating Union and dropped its membership in the Amateur Skating Association of Canada. In 2000 the organization changed its name to Skate Canada. In 1947 the CFSA national office was set up in Ottawa by Charles H. Cumming, the Association’s Secretary-Treasurer. The office was run on a volunteer basis until 1958 when Cumming became the first full-time employee of the CFSA.
