After reading many many reviews about this building, my fiancé and I went to look at the apartment building despite the warnings. We had read that this building has an awful bedbug and cockroach problem, but that is not the only problem with this building. When we went, the super had welcomed us in ripped up cut off sweat shorts, very unprofessional, and the building, as we walked through, was dirty. When we finally got to the apartment to be rented, it...was...AWFUL. The floors, if not dirty, were ripped and damaged. The kitchen was atrocious; the cupboards, floors, counters, you name it was filthy. The bathroom was the worst, I don't even want to get into it. To top it all off, as we were viewing, a cockroach scurried across the floor plain as day. After we exited, I asked the super straight up (knowing full well there was),if there was a roach problem in the building as I had heard elsewhere that there was. She neither said yes or no to my question but rather, "it all depends on how you live"....I'll take that as a yes. I will never step foot into this building again. I also told my friends and family to avoid this building too as the super took no responsibility for the problems in the building. I tried to ignore most of what I read as I try to see the best in everything, but I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend not going to this building.
the super is great? the place is crawling with bed bugs and has been for atleast a year( we just found out and are moving) and the "super" (LJ) WILL NOT take responsability. cockroaches and bed bugs, awesome. DO NOT RENT THESE APARTMENTS. landlord and tenent act states it IS the properties owner/ managements responsability to fumigate the whole building and notify the other tenents upon notice of bed bugs, but L ( the l...) refuses to do anything. the owner H is no better as he doesn't want to spend ANYTHING on the upkeep of 5 LOUIS AVE.
