Following more than 18 years working in the field of child and adolescent mental health, I have become very familiar with many of the challenges and pressures you may be facing. Since 2005, I have been providing psychological services privately from my Oakville practice to families of children from birth through 19 years. As I look back on years of training, research, and the diverse families that I’ve met, I can truly say that it’s been a rewarding and fulfilling journey. Since first completing my Masters Degree in Developmental Psychology, I’ve had a keen interest in working with children who are affected by a variety of developmental, learning, behavioural and psychiatric disorders. That interest drove me to pursue my Ph.D. in Clinical-Developmental Psychology which involved training and internships at the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry in Toronto, as well as the Chedoke MacMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton. After my formal training and licensure from the College of Psychologists of Ontario, I was able to work at Halton Child and Youth Services (now the Reach Out Centre for Kids, or ROCK) providing assessments and treatment for children across the full age spectrum, from 2-19 years. At HCYS I was given the opportunity to hone some uniquely specialized skills, conducting assessments for youth fire-setters, running parenting groups and providing training to professionals in the community. Today, as director of The Oak Centre, I spearhead our focus on thorough and comprehensive psychological assessments, psychological consultation for schools and child care centres, individual psychotherapy and family therapy for children and adolescents with a variety of clinical presentations. We also provide clinical consultation and supervision to staff at a school for children with special needs, and perform contract work for publicly funded agencies within the community.
