To assist Nova Scotians to improve control over their health by increasing their knowledge, skills and resources for individual and collective action. To provide information on self-help groups, resources and issues, and to refer individuals to the appropriate self-help group, professionals, community resources. To develop projects/programs to meet the health needs of specific health populations; to help individuals set up, lead and maintain self-help groups; to assist professionals in setting up support groups and peer support networks. To conduct research on self-help and mental health issues; to train and mentor mental health consumers in participatory action research initiatives; to evaluate programs and projects of the Self-Help Connection. The South House (SoHo) is Halifax's only full time gender justice centre. We are a volunteer driven, student funded, gender inclusive safe space for ALL members of our community. We are a trans-and queer-positive space and are proud to offer a wheelchair accessible space. We offer a resource centre, library, and free meeting space for woman-positive and anti-oppression organizing and gathering.

Spencer House Seniors’ Centre was officially opened on June 23, 1983 by its two founding members Doreen Fraser and Ida Zifkin. Our centre is named after the late Lady Diana Spencer. After a visit by Prince Charles and Princess Diana to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1983, it was decided that the new organization would be named after the Princess in tribute to the Royal Visit and to express the admiration and affection of the seniors towards the Princess. Our goal is to provide the services and programs which enable older adults to live independently, contribute to their community and maintain an active and healthy lifestyle.
