Kitchener Waterloo Midwifery Associates, founded in 2001, operates under the Ontario Midwifery Model of Care principles of Continuity of Care, Informed Choice and Choice of Birthplace. Continuity of Care Our midwives provide care throughout pregnancy, labour, birth, and the first six weeks following birth. They are available to clients 24 hours a day, seven days a week by pager. Informed Choice Women are active decision-makers in the care they receive; midwives give information to help women make informed decisions. Choice of Birthplace Women may choose to give birth safely at home or in hospital . Our midwives have hospital privileges at Grand River Hospital, can admit and discharge clients, and are able to access hospital resources. Our clients receive services as needed from other healthcare professionals while admitted at the hospital. However, midwives are the only health care professional specifically trained in home birth.

Karen McKenna-Meger has over twenty years of counselling experience working with individuals, couples and groups. She specializes in Bowen Family Systems Theory and grief and loss issues. Karen is committed to helping children and has expertise in childhood bereavement, ADD/ADHD, adoption and attachment issues. Karen's experience encompasses many years experience with family challenges through her work in private practice, hospitals, hospices and a pastoral counselling centre. She is the co-founder of Community Montessori School in Fishers, Indiana.
