CLAS provides quality community living opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. CLAS promotes and facilitates their exercise of individual rights, fulfillment of responsibilities, and participation within their communities. CLAS was formed in 1976 as a response to the challenges of de-institutionalization, a movement championed by parents and organizations dedicated to improving the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. CLAS began as a volunteer, charitable organization, working with the Nova Scotia Government to provide needed facilities in Kings County. It was the first association of its kind in the province. CLAS continues to work towards this goal.

Project Lifesaver was established in April 1999 as an initiative of the 43rd Search and Rescue Company of the Chesapeake Sheriff's Office in Virginia. Project Lifesaver uses a Radio Direction Finding (RDF) system. RDF is a technique used to determine the location of a transmitter based upon the strength of the radio frequency signal produced by the transmitter. Project Lifesaver is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting and responding to the challenge to caregivers of finding wandering or bolting loved ones who may suffer from Alzheimer's Disease, Autism or any other special needs requirements.
