Hi Parents! Welcome to a new and exciting year at Banbury Heights. Compassion, Pride and Perseverance will continue to be our character focus again this year. We are asking all guests of the school to report to the office. If you are staying for any reason, we will be asking you to wear a school identification card. This decreases the chances of there being uninvited guests in our building. Again, we are attempting to make the school as safe as possible for everyone! Please encourage your children to get involved in the great many activities that staff offer to the students at Banbury Heights. More involved students tend to stay more engaged in all aspects of student life, including their academics! Braveheart Assemblies will be at the end of every month. Parents of students who are being recognized will be invited to see their children receive the certificate. Peter Ashe - Principal

St. George-German prides itself on the athletic and community involvement of its students and teachers. Our students are very involved in community sports, intramural and competitive school teams, and a wide variety of other clubs and activities. St. George-German is also a SILVER certified EcoSchool, and we work hard to be environmentally responsible citizens in our school and in our community. St. George-German also holds high academic standards for all students. We consistently provide quality education to all students, as evidenced by our exceptional EQAO scores and a wide variety of additional data collected by teachers and the school on a regular basis. This year, we are focusing our attention on improving student abilities in Mathematics, and there are some exciting things happening in our classes! St. George-German is a Nut-Free School. We appreciate the co-operation of all families in keeping peanut/nut products off of school property. This includes food in individual lunches and treats brought into the school for special occasions. As an extra measure to ensure the safety of all students, sharing food is not allowed. We'd like to remind parents and guardians to please be careful not to park in the driveway or block the driveway entrance, particularly at the beginning and end of school. This will help our students arrive safety and on time. Thank you! Why Not Youth Centre St. George, a safe place for youth to meet, play video/games, or just hang out, is open at the South Dumfries Arena St. George every Friday night in the Community Room from 7-10. With the help of volunteers, we are able to provide a positive and safe atmosphere where all youth between the ages of 13-18 are welcome. Pizza and popcorn are free, as well as smiles! This centre belongs to the youth of St. George. Come on out and experience it with your friends. If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions call Wayne Roorda 905-973-3605 or Barb Roorda 519-757-6679.

Attitude is Everything Code of Conduct As well as curricular considerations, the code of behaviour is intended to assist in the prevention of physical, verbal (oral or written), sexual, or psychological abuse; bullying; or discrimination on the basis of race, culture, religion, gender, language, disability, sexual orientation, or any other attribute that may not be part of the majority at hand. The code draws from the Education Act to summarize the rights and responsibilities of students, teachers and parents. A graduated system of discipline is outlined for possible school action, based upon the severity and ongoing nature of the problem. Balanced School Day There are many benefits noted in schools which operate under a Balanced School Day, such as larger blocks of uninterrupted instructional time, greater length of time for nutrition, less time lost through transition, greater task completion, and improved student focus. The school day is divided into three equal instructional segments totaling 300 minutes. The segments are separated by 40-minute nutrition and recreational breaks instead of two 15-minute recess breaks and a one-hour lunch break. Advantages Literacy Program Every Classroom in the school will have large blocks of uninterrupted time for literacy programming (reading, writing, oral and visual communication) during each school day. This is an excellent opportunity to implement the Board's Literacy Guidelines. Academic Performance Research supports a balance of learning, physical activity and nutrition throughout a school day. To maximize learning for children, the Balanced Day Schedule provides a significant block of uninterrupted teaching/learning time. We are expecting academic benefits for all our students. Safe and Welcoming Schools - Branlyn Community School In the interest of safety and to support a welcoming learning environment for our students and staff, the Grand Erie District School Board will implement Safe Welcome Program – locked door po…
