Our Lady of Good Help Church is serving the Marontie Catholic, and the Christian Arab community in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada since 2004, when it was established by the Lebanese Priest, Father Esper Anthon. When the church was first built in 1951, mass was held in the basement hall until May 3, 1953 when Archbishop J.H. MacDonald solemnly blessed and dedicated the church. The six parish priests that served Immaculate Heart include: Fr. Joseph Burke (1951); Fr. Duncan MacDonnell; Fr. Charles Nearing; Fr. William McClellan; Fr. George Neumann; Fr. John Cunningham (2001) In 2001, it was decided to amalgamate Immaculate Heart of Mary with St. Anthony’s and St. Agnes Parishes.

Although most of the population in the synod is in Alberta, the Synod oversees the spiritual care of its members in the Far North. With congregations in Whitehorse, YK, and Yellowknife, NWT, and in cooperation with the Anglican Church of Canada, other mainline protestant denominations and para-church organizations such as On Eagles Wings and Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots, the Synod effectively provides for the spiritual care of all of its members throughout the synod. Our Partners: The Synod of Alberta and the Territories is one of five synods of: Eglise Evangelique Lutherienne Au Canada A member church of the: The Lutheran World Federation is a global communion of Christian churches in the Lutheran tradition. Founded in 1947, the LWF now has 133 member churches in 73 countries representing over 60.5 million of the world’s 64.3 million Lutherans. and a partner synod with the: In July 2001, the Waterloo Declaration was signed, bringing Anglicans and Lutherans into “Full Communion”. This refers to the relationship between two distinct churches in which each maintains its own identity. Each believes the other to hold the essentials of the Christian faith. Neither seeks to re-make the other in their own image. and the: As partners in a Companion Synod relationship, we are committed to participate in each others’ life and mission through communication, exchange of ideas, learning, persona contact and prayer.
