The Alberta SPCA protects, promotes and enhances the well-being of animals in Alberta. Our Peace Officers enforce the Animal Protection Act in Alberta, ensuring animals are not in distress, as well as to provide information to owners on how to provide appropriate care for companion animals and livestock. Our Education Department offers resources to teachers in Alberta so they can include the principles of Humane Education in their classrooms. Our One Family Welfare Department offers temporary care for pets of people in crisis situations including family violence, homelessness, and emergency medical situations. Claffey C.Dr. Claffey is the senior veterinarian and owner of the Centre. He has enjoyed a lengthy career in the veterinary profession and special interest in orthopedics, endoscopy, laser surgery and all areas of traditional surgery.Dr. Claffey grew up in the Edmonton area, graduating from Bonnie Doon High School in 1964. He then entered the University of Alberta for his pre-veterinarian education. After graduating from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1974, he practiced in Edmonton for two years prior to opening the Millwoods Animal Clinic in 1976. In October 1995, Dr. Claffey relocated his practice to a modern, free-standing veterinary hospital in south Edmonton, the Animal Medical Centre.
