DIRECTIONS Council for Vocational Services Society is a not for profit organization representing twenty-ninemember agencies throughout Nova Scotia. The Council's mandate is to assist and support member organizations in the delivery of services that promote the abilities and inclusion of persons with disabilities in the every day activities of their community. DIRECTIONS member agencies employ over 300 staff that provide a spectrum of services for 1800 participants within the province. DIRECTIONS provides valuable services for its members including educational opportunities, provincial staff pension, networking, advocacy, leadership and a variety of vocational resources. Each DIRECTIONS member agency is an integral part of the community it serves; providing training and employment opportunities for participants. Vocational agencies offer a wide variety of services ranging from prevocational programs to community employment placements. Clients develop meaningful relationships and expand upon skills that increase self-reliance and independence. Agencies offer comprehensive skills assessment, case planning and other program options.

The Healthy Minds Cooperative is a member owned and democratically controlled not-for-profit enterprise. Its shareholders are people who possess lived experience with mental illness, and/or an interest in the topic of mental health. What is the Healthy Minds Co-op about? The Co-op is about people who have mental illness/mental health issues helping themselves. It is made up of people who are committed to improving mental health in their communities. Many of its members have experience with mental illness or mental health issues, and know there is a need for change in the system and society. HMCo-op provides public education to reduce the stigma of mental illness offers peer support and facilitates connections to community services. The Co-op has identified five areas of priorities, they are: Better access to mental health services. # Public education regarding mental illness. More participation of those with lived experience in the design, development, delivery and evaluation of mental health services. Providing peer-support and advocacy for consumers and their families. Developing better connections to existing community services.

Barry House provides emergency shelter for women and their dependent children experiencing homelessness. Women with pets are welcome too. At Shelter Nova Scotia, we believe in a People First approach. This means that we work with people in a non-judgmental environment, while promoting compassion and dignity. By focusing on a People First approach, we provide shelter services based on Harm Reduction and Housing First principles. A Harm Reduction framework enables us to work with people who may experience multiple barriers to accessing services. Such barriers may include mental illness, addiction or concurrent disorders.

Named after the Grand Chief Membertou (1510-1611) the Membertou First Nation belongs to the greater tribal group of the Mi'kmaw Nation. Membertou is situated 3 kms from the heart of the city of Sydney, Nova Scotia, within its tribal district of Unama'ki (Cape Breton). It is one of five Mi'kmaw communities in Cape Breton, and one of thirteen in the Province of Nova Scotia. Membertou is an urban First Nation community consisting of over 1050 people, and one of 5 communities that make up the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, with a total population of over 115 thousand people.
