100th Year Anniversary Overview : In 1869 a small Mission Church was built on the site of the William J. Stairs Rope Works. It was part of St James Presbyterian Church, now St James United. The building was later moved to Dawson Street. On October 29th, 1913, Stairs was officially established as a separate church and named Stairs Memorial Presbyterian Church. 1925 it became Stairs Memorial United Church. Throughout the years the congregation has supported their church through war years, lean years and years of plenty. Stairs now occupies a lovely red-roofed building on Hester Street. The 100th Year Anniversary celebrations are focused on celebrating our history and hard work, sharing our history and current works with the community and having fun. Events include having readings from the Church history at every Sunday service, a Community Picnic on July 20th, a Jamboree in mid-September (date TBA), a Hymn Sing on October 6th a 100th Anniversary Dinner on October 26th, Anniversary Service, October 27th. More events may be added, so keep checking this page. Invitations to all events will be sent to past and current members of the congregation. Past Ministers, student ministers and lay ministry are invited to take part in the services during the year. An invitation to all events was also given to each of our Food Bank clients, along with an inscribed key chain light. To aid in fundraising, and to provide 100 Year souvenirs to the congregation and to the community, several items have been created and are offered for sale. The Stairs congregation continues to be spiritual, serving the physical needs of North Dartmouth, training our youth and struggling to make ends meet.

Nalandabodhi Halifax began as a small group of people who wanted to study and practice Buddhism together, following the teachings of Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche. In 2013 we established our own centre at 6218 Quinpool Rd. (map) We now offer study, group meditation practice, and programs with both guest teachings by our Nalandabodhi teachers, and local Buddhist teachers. Please feel free to come by to check us out whether you are beginning your own journey of exploration into 21st century Buddhism and the science of mind, or looking for a Buddhist centre to relate to. We also meet to practice together and support each other in our centre family or “sangha” and to connect with the larger community through service and engagement.

Fort Massey United Church Halifax, Nova Scotia We at Fort Massey by-the-sea are a diverse group of people. What we have in common is that we choose to go to church in the city, in a powerful building, and to experience United Church worship in the context of this diversity. We enjoy thinking outside the box, exploring innovative liturgy, progressive ideas and topical issues. We work hard at having a multicultural flavour to the service from time to time, singing in French, Chinese, Zulu (South African) or Welsh. Above all else, we are an inclusive church. This means that all are welcome to attend, and that all are welcome to receive communion no matter what church or faith (if any) they are from. Different opinions and varying faith journeys are the strength of our church. Some choose to come regularly to our church. Others come occasionally, and still others don't attend yet see themselves as friends of Fort Massey. Still others experience us virtually online all around the world. This may be because they love the building, appreciate its presence in the city or want to support the ministry of Fort Massey.
