La Garderie du Petit Cheval Blanc voit le jour en 1989 suite au besoin exprimé par la communauté franco-yukonnaise d’obtenir un service de garde complet, en français. La première année de son existence, la Garderie accueille 7 enfants. En 1991, les locaux de la Garderie subissent des travaux d’agrandissement. Le nombre de places passe alors de 14 à 26. En 1994, le ministère du Patrimoine Canadien accepte de financer la construction de nouveaux locaux pour la Garderie francophone. Alors qu’on procède à sa construction, la Garderie de Riverdale est rasée par le feu, victime d’un acte criminel. L’école Émilie-Tremblay prête temporairement des locaux à la Garderie dans son nouvel édifice situé sur Falcon Drive à Whitehorse pour lui permettre de maintenir ses services. Le camp d’été 2008 pour les enfants du jardin d’Émilie et de la maternelle est un franc succès. Septembre 2008 la Garderie est responsable du parascolaire pour les enfants du jardin d’Émilie et de la Maternelle.

The Child Development Centre was established in 1979 in a small trailer behind one of the local schools. In 1989, we moved to our current location and with some renovations, we have created a space where families can come and feel welcome. We now have over 35 dedicated staff in Whitehorse and the communities and see over 900 children a year. Our staff specialize in the areas of speech and language, play, social and emotional development, cognition, and fine and gross motor skills. We believe: families are the most important people in a child's life and that we are most effective when we work in partnership with the family; the development of young children is enhanced by providing services as early as possible; that by working in partnership with other community members we can build a better community for children and families; and in a bright future full of hopes and dreams for every child.
