The Board is an independent quasi-judicial regulatory agency, which hears appeals on decisions under the above-noted Acts administered by the Ministry of Environment. The Board consists of a shared full-time chair, part-time vice-chair(s) and part-time members. ¿ The Board is jointly administered with the Forest Appeals Commission in order to take advantage of synergy and keep costs to a minimum. The two agencies are supported by an administrative office with 11 full-time staff. The office provides registry services, legal advice, research support, systems support, financial and administrative services, training and communications support for the tribunals. ¿ Each has funding established under separate sub-votes. ¿ The shared office for the Board and the Commission provides administrative support to five additional tribunals. This has been done to assist government in achieving economic and program delivery efficiencies allowing greater access to resources while, at the same time, reducing administration and operation costs.
