We are often told that I have the ability to find hope in what seems hopeless. Feeling heard and being understood without judgment are often integral steps toward significant change. After 30+ years in the public mental health field, we have learned that most people can work through challenges, yet at times, we benefit from being reminded of our strengths and what we need and deserve in order to thrive as unique individuals. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and a Certified Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist. I am also trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solutions Focused, Strength Based and Narrative Therapy. There are several associates on our team that are trained as social workers and registered psychiatric nurses as we aim to meet as many of our client's needs as we can. EMDR therapy is an evidence-based form of psychotherapy developed by based on the adaptive information processing (AIP) model, which posits that trauma is stored and stuck in the brains neural network. Any memory of a traumatic event causes a person to connect to the negative feelings, body sensations and cognitions associated with it. The goal is to add adaptive emotions to the neural network. This is obtained through bilateral stimulation, a process that creates new neural pathways and the ability to access the stored trauma. This allows for the reprocessing of the trauma and a reduction of associated anxiety, thereby creating new associations with memories and increasing adaptive behaviours. We welcome you to contact us for a complimentary 15 minute consultation with one of our skilled practitioners so you can assess whether or not our services are a good fit for your needs. We look forward to hearing from you. Sally-Anne

We can all go through times when life gets us down and we can't see a way out of our problems. We can feel disconnected, depressed, isolated for so many reasons when life throws something unexpected in our path. Sometimes it feels impossible to impose our problems on our friends and family, and it is at these times that we need support from someone impartial. There are times when life seems overwhelming or a particular problem or circumstance interferes with your daily activities. In many cases, the best way to find solutions is through professional counselling. I can help you find resolution and relief. I offer a safe and confidential service in a professional counselling office in Victoria BC. I am a Registered Professional Counsellor with a Diploma in Transpersonal Counselling from Clearmind International as well undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Business. I first began counselling while I was completing a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Victoria and worked as a lay counsellor and a street social worker. I spent three years of intense experiential counsellor training at the Clearmind International Institute and have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. I have experience working with individuals and couples, have facilitated group counselling sessions, mentored business executives, and assisted teaching a counselling program. I’ve also done extensive personal work, such as you are considering now, believing in the philosophy of healing myself first before approaching healing others. Contact me to arrange a free initial consultation.

No matter what you are struggling with, remember that on the other side of this difficult time will be increased wisdom, the exciting potential of a better you and more of what you want. We all have a survivor inside of us, an innate ability to overcome even the most difficult of challenges. Talking to someone can help you harness the strength that lives inside you. That is the essence of counselling.

Most people come to see me because either they or people close to them are suffering in some way. People usually attempt many solutions on their own and in their relationships before seeking counselling. Counselling can help you and/or your loved one's find relief and solutions. I offer counselling to individuals, couples, and families with experience working with children and youth. Some areas of practice I have experience with include couple and family issues, anxiety and depression, addictions, trauma, separation and divorce, family and life transitions, grief and loss, sexuality, and self-injury. My approach to counselling is informed by many theories along side my practice experience in the field for the last 19 years. Regardless of the concern bringing you in, I look to establish a respectful relationship and understand you in your life context. A good working relationship supports our work together and understanding you helps me chose approaches that are a good fit.

I am a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist (RMFT #2017227) with the CACFT and a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Approved Clinical Supervisor (RCC-ACS #1406) with the BCACC. And I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC #11247463) with the CCPA. As well, I am an Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapist (ECFT) certified by ICEEFT, and a Perinatal Mental Health therapist (PMH-C) certified by PSI. For twelve years, I was employed as a clinical member of the provincial government’s child and youth mental health team for Victoria. Following that period, since 2006, I have operated a full-time private practice. In 2016, my practice was incorporated as McGee Therapy & Consulting Inc. In addition to my work as a clinical counsellor, therapist and supervisor, I am the lead counsellor and operator of the CRD Perinatal Counselling Program which serves new and expecting parents across Greater Victoria (the Capital Regional District). Using evidence-based methodologies (including CBT, EFT and EMDR) I take a systemic approach in my work, treating the whole individual within their family system. Trauma & loss are common themes in my practice. In my work with prenatal and postpartum parents, I treat all aspects of perinatal depression, anxiety or mood disorders, often with CBT and mindfulness techniques.
