Looking for a place to meet, chat, learn a new skill or play a game? You’ll be in good company at the Oakridge Seniors’ Centre. With over 400 members and a history that spans decades, the centre is run for the mutual benefit of seniors in the community. The Oakridge Seniors’ Centre is a drop-in activity centre for seniors 55 years and older. It is a nonprofit organization operated by the Oakridge Seniors’ Society and is separate and independent from the Vancouver Parks Board and all other community centres in Vancouver. Some of the activities happening in the Centre are: fun and fitness exercises, line dancing, belly dancing, international folk dancing, osteofit, tai- chi (beginners and intermediate), Spanish class, computer classes, bridge, mahjong, knitting, quilting, etc. For only a $25 annual fee, come and take advantage of this space provided by Oakridge, which includes a lunch counter, craft and card-playing area, and a lounge and reading area. Our Café, which is open to members

The Carnegie Community Action Project (CCAP) is a project of the board of the Carnegie Community Centre Association. CCAP works mostly on housing, income, and land use issues in the Downtown Eastside (DTES) of Vancouver so that the area can remain a low income friendly community. CCAP works with DTES residents in speaking out on their own behalf for the changes they would like to see in their neighbourhood.

Gordon Neighbourhood House is a community service organization. Our mission is to make the West End a better neighbourhood in which to live and grow. Our goal is to strengthen our community through voluntary activity. When we as neighbours identify issues which voluntary action alone cannot address, Gordon Neighbourhood House secures the necessary additional resources. Our challenge is to remain sensitive to the ever changing needs of the diverse groups of people who live in our neighbourhood, and to respond with innovative and effective programs and services. To ensure that every service we provide is relevant to the neighbourhood we are governed by a board of local residents, consult with those who live in our community and those who use our services, and we formally evaluate all of our programs every year. We have about 400 people as members of Gordon Neighbourhood House each year. Staff at Gordon Neighbourhood House speak: French, Spanish, Hindi, Polish, Japanese. Gordon Neighbourhood House is a member unit of the Association of Neighourhood Houses of British Columbia. The Association of Neighbourhood Houses of British Columbia The Association of Neighborhood Houses of British Columbia (ANHBC) is a volunteer-driven agency committed to enhancing neighborhoods and meeting the needs of Vancouver’s diverse population. The first neighborhood house in Vancouver grew out of the Alexandra Orphanage in 1894, emerging from the neighborhood and settlement house movement. Today, the eight neighborhood houses and one camp which currently make up ANHBC serve more than 100 000 people a year, offering more than 300 programs from childcare to English as a Second Language classes to seniors’ lunches.

The Kerrisdale Community Centre (KCC) is jointly operated by Kerrisdale Community Centre Society (KCCS) and the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation. The Centre offers an exciting blend of programming in recreation, sport and the arts for all age groups. One of the earliest community centres to be built in Vancouver, Kerrisdale Community Centre was constructed in 1952 through a local improvement by-law initiative whereby residents in the area agreed to directly fund facility building costs.

The dentists at the Strathcona Community Dental Clinic work on a rotation basis. All have a wide range of experience in dental health. Currently our dentists are: Dr. Cindy Fong Dr. Anita Orendi Dr. Jeannie Ho Dr. Ellen Wu Dr. Peter Lam Our non-profit clinic provides high quality dental care to children, their families and seniors. We also provide prevention and dental health information and nutritional counseling. The lively clinic, located in Strathcona Elementary School, features children's art, indoor and outdoor play areas and three operational chairs. It also plays a key role in the work of an active community based not-for-profit - Strathcona Health Society (SHS).
