The Department of Civil Engineering at The University of British Columbia is an engineering department widely recognized for its excellence in teaching, research and service to society. Civil engineering is an exciting profession that makes a significant and visible impact on society and the daily lives of people. Public demand is high for safe and effective infrastructure including safe supplies of drinking water, sustainable transportation systems, and structures such as school buildings and bridges that are durable under normal conditions while safe under extreme events involving natural or man-made disasters. Our alumni are leaders in the profession who in their various capacities contribute to enhancing our society and addressing many of the challenges that it faces.
