Since 1971 Rawdon District Volunteer Fire Department has been serving the communities in the Rawdon Hills as part of the East Hants Fire Service. More than 40 years later the Department has 28 members and 4 vehicles to provide direct and mutual aid emergency services. Rawdon Fire is routinely requested to provide assistance to neighbouring departments and communities such as Gore and Kennetcook, and works with the RCMP, EHS and DNR, depending on the nature of the call. RDVFD took delivery of its new Rescue truck from Port Williams NS based Lantz Truck Body in January 2014, and after fully equipping the cabinets it is now in active service. The new truck '831' is a 2013 Dodge 5500 4x4 with a 12 foot walkaround box, with seating for 5 firefighters and onboard scba refilling capabilities.
