"You know, its not so much the that other dojo/clubs are teaching incorrectly. Rather their students have little time to practice because they only do structured classes. Its top down, a type of systems theory or methodology that sacrifices personal differences for the overall system. From experience, I believe that people need to be taught from the bottom up, from their unique perspective, life courses and experiences. People are not systems, mathematically certain equations or binary beings, we are organic and take time to be nurtured and grow to ones fullest self. If our environment is conducive to ones nature(s) then we not only grow, we have an opportunity to really bloom." Shihan Oki's traditional graded programs, like the children's and adult curricula, combine striking (Karate), grappling (Ju-Jutsu) and throwing (Judo) in a highly effective and practical approach, all the while maintaining the highest in safety standards. As well, his innovative modern programs, from Women's Kickboxing and Self Defense to Man's Stand-up and Grappling, all utilize, among other things, music in an informal environment, which adds to the teaching matrix by helping members cultivate time, rhythm, and pace. Circuit and partner drills, sparring sessions and pad/bag work, all aid in overcoming learning curves and cultivating the necessary experience for practical/self defense applications. Training and practice in our environment is non-political and one that is best suited for street situations, rather than for martial arts competition. As Oki Shihan puts it, "the street knows no rules, tournaments and prize fighting do. To be a champion in life, to survive and to live... is obviously much harder because one must constantly be aware... the very moment your not, is the very moment you could die!" We invite you to experience our programs or to simply drop in for a cup of green tea and visit awhile... "Play and be young"
