We teach students with special needs the skills necessary to function as independently as possible in the community We teach students to work with and through their challenges and to find learning experiences rewarding We respect the unique strengths and needs of each Kohai student and therefore provide unique programming for each student We keep our ratio small to foster a well-ordered, family-like atmosphere We use direct instruction methods within a behaviourist model to teach real understanding of concepts and to give effective practice The Kohai staff collaborates with allied professionals such as psychologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists and physical therapists when requested by families to benefit our students Our son, Matthew, looks forward to school every day at Kohai. The skills he has learned at Kohai have been invaluable. Our family is now able to dine in a restaurant, go to a movie and even travel. Our family is grateful to the dedicated staff at Kohai. Geneva Centre for Autism is an international leader in the development and delivery of clinical intervention services and training. The Brain Injury Society of Toronto supports ABI survivors and their family members. Our members are children, parents, teens, spouses, and grandparents. Membership is open to anyone in the community with an interest in the challenges that come with living with the effects of brain injury. Professionals and service providers are also welcome as members of BIST. BIST is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors representing community stakeholders including: survivors, service providers, educators and professionals.
