Since 1913, the Toronto homeless charity Evangel Hall Mission has been reaching out to persons suffering from homelessness, poverty and social isolation. After recognizing the high levels of poverty, it soon began addressing the pressing need to alleviate the problems by offering a drop-in centre and soup kitchen. The Centre for Equality Rights in Accommodation (CERA) is a not-for-profit charitable organization dedicated to preventing evictions and ending housing discrimination across Ontario. CERA was founded in 1987 as the only organization in Canada with a primary focus on promoting human rights in housing.
