Since 1979, Suzuki Niagara has been giving children a chance to develop musical appreciation and ability. Many of those who began their music instruction with individual and group lessons through Suzuki Niagara, have continued on to become members of youth orchestras in the Niagara and Toronto areas, and some have even pursued careers in music. Suzuki Niagara provides instrumental instruction for violin, viola, and cello with the curriculum being offered to students as early as the age of three. Suzuki students receive 36 weeks of private instruction, with a lesson duration of 30, 45 or 60 minutes depending on the student’s age and skill level. Together with at-home listening of the Suzuki repetroire and students practicing with their parents prepare them to perform individual pieces at Suzuki Niagara organized recitals. Thirteen group lessons, scheduled in two clusters during the year, also prepare students to play together for concert performances, generally held in December and in the spring. The exact nature of performances and activities varies annually. In the past, Suzuki Niagara has collaborated on concerts held with the Niagara Symphony and the Niagara Junior Youth Orchestra, while also performing at local schools, retirement residences, or churches. Day long workshops have also been coordinated so that students may learn from guest clinicians. Suzuki Niagara is coordinated by a volunteer executive board and group activities are supported through fundraising efforts. Suzuki believed that talent is not an accident of birth, but that the potential of every child can be highly developed if he or she is given the proper training and learning environment. Suzuki Niagara continues the work of Dr. Suzuki, enriching the lives of children through the added value of Suzuki-based music instruction. We welcome new families and invite you to join our music program.
