"I'm deeply interested in, and influenced by, ancient Celtic art, particularly the stonework. What I draw from this and try to put into my own work, is a sense of being deeply rooted in place. Like the Anishnaabe artists of the Great lakes region, one gets the sense that these cultures were formed by and within their surroundings, in a way that European culture in North America wasn't. In my sculpture I'm always trying to understand that I'm part of the ground I walk on, always trying to feel a little more at home.”
