Any organization should be able to describe its mission in less than 20 words. I’m very pleased that Edwards School of Business has approved a new mission statement “we develop business professionals to build nations.” This simple 7-word mission involved extensive consultation, and was adopted by our faculty council in Spring 2012. It honours the School’s history of mentoring generations of business professionals in such fields as accounting, finance, marketing, human resource management, labour relations, operations management, and of course, business strategy and effective line-management.

Following is brief history of the Saskatchewan College of Physical Therapists. I would like to credit "The History of the Professional and Educational Development of Physiotherapy in Saskatchewan " (1976), by Conal Tompson as the source for this information. 1945 - The Physical Therapy Act was passed as a result of recommendations in the Sigerist Report. This report identified "no regulation concerning the practice of physiotherapy so that the public had no means of ascertaining who was qualified". The Act created the Saskatchewan Physical Therapy Association (S.P.T.A.) as the regulatory body for Physiotherapy in Saskatchewan. This was the first physiotherapy licensing legislation in Canada. The Act originally included masseurs and physical therapists.

The ICT department integrates people, processes, data, and technologies in order to deliver information systems for the university. These systems are complementary networks of hardware and software that people and organizations use to collect, filter, process, create, and distribute data. Information systems are not only the information and communication technology used by the university, but also the way in which people develop and interact with this technology in support of teaching & learning, research, community engagement, and administration.

Chalmers Jack MacKenzie was appointed the first Dean of the College in 1921. C.J. Mackenzie is well known for designing and building Saskatoon’s unique Broadway Bridge, a project intended to help the unemployed during the depression. He also took a lead role in developing nuclear research in Canada, joining the National Research Council (NRC) in 1939 and becoming its president in 1944. In 1984 the College adopted the Mackenzie dress tartan tie as their own, in honour of C.J. Mackenzie who died that same year. In January, a distinguished alumnus is invited to speak at the C.J. Mackenzie Gala of Engineering Excellence, the College’s annual flagship event honouring the achievements of students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Established in 1908, the College of Arts and Science continues to be the largest and most dynamic college on the University of Saskatchewan's campus. As the oldest college at the U of S, our enrollment has witnessed exponential expansion from the 70 students who first attended classes in downtown Saskatoon’s Drinkle Building to the nearly 8,000 students we serve today. With more than 45 per cent of the total student population at the U of S, we are comprised of 22 departments, 4 affiliated programs and 15 interdisciplinary programs, all taught by more than 300 faculty members. Arts and Science provides approximately half of the undergraduate courses offered at the U of S, with 60 subject areas grouped into four program types: Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Fine Arts. Our college is unique in that it is one of only a few in Canada to combine arts and science course offerings within the same college. This integrated approach provides students with an invaluable, broad and in-depth perspective of the world that enhances one’s focus on individual disciplines.
