The story since 1994. Orbite Sport first opened its doors in over 20 years ago in the town of St. Jean-Sur-Richelieu. The stores first location, a 1500 square foot boutique was only the beginning of a shop destined to become one of the largest and most well known on both Montreal`s south shore and Quebec as a whole. Jean-Rene Bertrand, Orbites founder, was a skater at heart, a professionally ranked wakeboarder and one of the pioneers of Quebec’s emerging wake surf movement of the late nineties. Looking to expand in 1998 Jean-Rene purchased a building complex that would soon become one of the largest skateshops in the province. Not only did the retail space expand to 10 000 square feet but there was also an indoor skatepark (the largest in the region at the time). Orbite sport has always been prominent in the skateboard, Snowboard and wakeboard community. Following the success of the retail store and indoor skatepark, Jean-Rene opened a wakeboard + Wakesurf camp out of his home on the Richelieu river. The camp offered daily wakeboard lessons and even had onsite facilities to accommodate campers who could overnight with personalized daily training sessions and nightly activities. The following years saw the expansion to two other satellite stores and well as a niche boutique catering to infant apparel. Sadly in 2013, Orbite Sport was expropriated from its location due to the city expanding the bridge along the river the building was adjacent to. Jean-Rene had no choice but to close the doors of Orbites physical localation and thus “SKATESHOPENLIGNE. COM” was born. The store may no longer be brick and mortar, but it is back and following it’s skateboarding roots ! Orbite Sport will be just as involved in the skateboard community as it ever was and will now be able to service customers wherever they may be. It’s goal is to offer great product, service and a constantly stocked inventory! This is only the beginning....
