In 1970 the Verrilli family purchased the camping park after the original owner died shortly after opening the campground. At that time limited service sites and pit toilets limited the park's use to campers willing to "live with nature". Time and investment have changed favorably the "comfort zone", offering flush toilets, hot water showers, dumping stations and fastidious clean up and maintenance --- living with nature still permitted. The Mom & Pop component of the GSCP has been enhanced by an increasing trend in seasonal occupants who become “neighbors” in a sense and look after each others sites, perform "Christmas in July" parties, potluck suppers and casual acts of kindness.
