West Coast Aquatic is the first organization of its kind in Canada. In 2001, Canada’s first co-management body under the federal Oceans Act (1996) was ratified by Federal, Provincial, Nuu-chah-nulth and local governments. West Coast Aquatic held its first meeting in Port Alberni in February 2002. WCA is designed as a forum for communities, government, businesses and people from all walks of life, to plug into. This unique area of the world is both beautiful and bountiful. Not only do the people that live, work, or play in the region benefit from its richness, but the people of the entire world benefit.
