Research at Carleton's Physics Department is focused in two key areas, Medical physics and Particle physics. Our Medical Physics research is carried out at on-site facilities at local hospitals and other external medical facilities, and at the NRC and Health Canada. These researchers are networked through OMPI, the Ottawa Medical Physics Institute. Our Particle Physics program involves experiments at CERN, Geneva and at the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO). Carleton University is a full member of TRIUMF: Canada's National Laboratory for Particle and Nuclear Physics. Experimental particle physics is complemented by an active theory group. Research at Carleton is enhanced by access to world class workshop facilities at Carleton's STC. The Department of Physics is located in the Herzberg Laboratories for Physics and Computer Science known more familiarly on campus as the Herzberg Building. The building is easily identifiable by the observatory on the roof. The Physics department shares the building with a number of other Science units. The Physics research laboratories are located on the second level. The faculty offices are located on the third level and in the Herzberg annex, also known as the Inco centre.
