The Canadian Cancer Society Chooses Recycle Frog’s Gold Drive Program
2011.05.04
Recycle Frog, a next generation, direct-to-consumer precious metals recycling company, today announced that the Cancer Society, a national, community-based organization of volunteers whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer, has selected Recycle Frog’s Gold Drive™ program to help raise needed contributions used towards creating a world where no Canadian fears cancer. The first public event is scheduled for May 15, 16 at the Dovercourt Recreation Centre in Ottawa. Recycle Frog will boost the fundraising campaign by matching all contributions dollar-for-dollar.
“We’re excited Recycle Frog is hosting its first Gold Drive fundraising event to benefit our organization and the people who need our support,” said Beth Dimsdale, Fundraising Coordinator, Ottawa Unit, Canadian Cancer Society. “This innovative fundraising event gives people the opportunity to get rid of their unwanted gold, silver and platinum and get paid more than anywhere in the city. What people don’t realize is that unlike most fundraising activities where people are asked to give money, Gold Drives actually put money in their pocket and every transaction generates a contribution that goes directly towards those with cancer in our community. It’s a wonderful initiative.”
The first of many Gold Drive fundraisers is also Recycle Frog’s first truly public event. It’s an innovative way to raise significant contributions in which people get paid to recycle their unwanted gold and silver jewellery while simultaneously raising proceeds that go towards fighting cancer in our community.
When: Saturday May 15th through Sunday, May 16th, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Where: Dovercourt Recreation Centre, 411 Dovercourt Avenue, Ottawa
“We’re extremely proud to partner with an organization that is passionate, considerate and empathetic toward those individuals and families touched by cancer,” said Matthew MacQuarrie, President, Recycle Frog. “Like the Cancer Society, we believe that all people should be treated with consideration and dignity, and that’s precisely why Recycle Frog is going to help enhance their fundraising efforts through our Gold Drive program.”
The Canadian Cancer Society joins a growing number of local and nationally recognized organizations, including the CHEO Foundation and the United Way Ottawa that have chosen Recycle Frog’s Gold Drive fundraisers to boost their outreach and results.
Media professionals interested in attending these events are encouraged to contact David Martinek at dmartinek@recyclefrog.com to arrange access or an individual interview.

Recycle Frog’s Gold Buying Services in High Demand; Company Grows East, Hosts Events in Moncton, New Brunswick
2011.05.04
Recycle Frog, Canada’s fastest growing and most trusted direct-to-consumer precious metals recycling company, today announced that due to the incredible demand for its gold and silver buying services, it will be opening the first of several offices in the Maritimes. Kicking off its east coast expansion, Recycle Frog will be hosting its first public event the weekend of Friday, August 13th, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel located on Main Street in downtown Moncton.
Like so many other innovative companies, Recycle Frog was borne out of a need to fill a significant gap in the marketplace. With numerous companies buying gold and new ones emerging weekly, consumers now have dozens of companies to choose from, yet each company is essentially a carbon copy of the last. Every commercial features actors waiving wads of cash and remarking on their amazing experience. It seems these companies are all rooted in ‘pawn shop-style’ business practices – high on flash but low on substance. Until now.
“We are extremely excited to bring an ‘intelligent alternative’ to the people of New Brunswick,” said Matthew MacQuarrie, President, Recycle Frog. “We proved that when you provide a professional service that properly rewards people financially for simply recycling their unwanted gold, your business will grow. The thousands of satisfied Recycle Frog customers speak volumes. Now we’re bringing that same tried, tested and trusted service to New Brunswick.”
Upcoming Event:
Friday, August 13th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Saturday, August 14th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Sunday, August 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Where: The Crowne Plaza Hotel | 1005 Main Street | Downtown Moncton
Recycle Frog appeals to a significant segment of the population previously alienated, ignored or worse, taken advantage of. These prudent consumers never seriously considered doing business with pawn shops, or mailing their gold to those infomercials on TV, regardless of the price of gold. These same consumers now have a much more intelligent option, conveniently serving the people of Moncton, Fredericton and other communities around the province.
“The unprecedented demand for Recycle Frog’s in-person material evaluation service has driven the need to deliver it to new, underserved markets like those found across New Brunswick,” added MacQuarrie. “This first event in Moncton will help establish Recycle Frog’s foothold in the region, eventually leading to more offices across the east coast. Good news for consumers looking to sell their gold jewellery and for those actively seeking an employment opportunity with Canada’s fastest growing gold buyer.”
Recycle Frog will also bring its innovative Gold Drive™ fundraising program to the region. The program is already helping a growing number of local and nationally recognized organizations, including the Canadian Cancer Society, the United Way and Children’s Hospital Foundation. Keep your eyes open for a Gold Drive event near you!
Media professionals interested in getting more information about Recycle Frog’s expansion and these upcoming events are encouraged to contact David Martinek at dmartinek@recyclefrog.com or by calling 1.613.695.1236.

Recycle Frog's Gold Drive Program Reaches Community Fundraising Milestone
2011.05.04
Recycle Frog, Canada's fastest growing and most trusted precious metals recycling company, proudly announced that this month marks the first anniversary of its Gold Drive™ program. In its inaugural year, the program has raised in excess of $55,000 for numerous local charities such as United Way Ottawa, CHEO and the Ottawa chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society. Funds are raised when people sell their gold and silver items to Recycle Frog, and the company diverts a portion of the proceeds to the recipient charity.
"Our innovative fundraising program makes the process of gold buying much more accessible," said Matthew MacQuarrie, President, Recycle Frog. "It's a program that many people can participate in, and they can do so easily in a safe, convenient manner. Our customers appreciate that, which ultimately means more support for the invaluable work of our community's charities."
The milestone is being marked with a weekend of fundraising for United Way Ottawa as it heads into the final days of its 2010 community campaign. Gold Drive events are being held at the St-Laurent Complex and the Bob MacQuarrie Recreation Complex. People are encouraged to visit either venue for a free, one-on-one evaluation of their gold or silvery jewellery and other items. By doing so, participants will be taking advantage of the record-high market prices while simultaneously helping Recycle Frog raise considerable contributions for United Way. Since the launch of the 2010 campaign in September, more than 50 Gold Drive events have been hosted at private and public organizations, including RBC, Transport Canada, AMEX, National Research Council and many others.
The demand for Recycle Frog's Gold Drive events continues to grow with each passing week. The one-of-a-kind program offers charities and not-for-profit groups a turnkey option that is easy to organize, promote and execute. The Recycle Frog team offers marketing and promotions support, trained agents deliver honest, transparent and friendly evaluation services, and secure payouts for participants and the charities are issued on the spot.
"It's never been more true, this is the perfect time to sell your unwanted gold and silver items," added MacQuarrie. "The recent spikes in the market price of gold mean that long-forgotten items hidden in drawers can be recycled into record high payouts for people and easy money for great causes."

Recycle Frog Helps CHEO Raise Over $3000
2011.05.04
HEO Foundation
OTTAWA, CANADA (EMC Ottawa South) - Recycle Frog has found a new way to fundraise across the city and recently teamed up with the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Foundation to do just that. Together the collaboration raised $3,000 for the foundation, which will be used to purchase equipment for new wings at the hospital.
Recycle Frog, based in Ottawa, recycles people's gold for money. The company, founded two years ago, started because of the increase in the cost of gold. Ten years ago, gold cost $300 an ounce, now it hovers around $1200 an ounce. Often, anyone looking to sell gold products resorts to other means, and might not get a good price for their valuables.
"So Recycle Frog was created to service the more educated consumer groups, middle upper middle groups, who were really being neglected by virtually all gold buyers out there," said Matthew MacQuarrie, president of Recycle Frog. "We operate by appointments only. Our costumers call and schedule a convenient time to come in. Typically it takes between 15 and 30 minutes, and they sit in our office with one of our appraisers and actually get to learn about the process. They get to understand how the value of the gold is determined and what our settlement offer is based on and get to see it unfold right before their eyes."
About five months ago the company recognized that they could turn their business into a fundraising campaign. The company started with the United Way Campaign and had so much success they decided to help other charities. Typically, when customers take gold to Recycle Frog, they get back 70% of the full value, and the company keeps the rest. But when fundraising, the customer receives 65%, with the remaining 5% donated to charity. Recycling frog also matches that 5% donation. For a $100 item the owner would see $65, the charity $10 and Recycle Frog earns $25.
The foundation staff decided to partner with Recycle Frog after seeing them in action at United Way, the said.
"My boss and I went to United Way and we just sat there and watched and were quite impressed," said Carmen Wynn, manager special event at the CHEO Foundation. "A lot of the gold is broken. So it doesn't have to be a necklace, it can be one earring and I saw them looking at silver and platinum as well. We would be pleased to work with them again as they are very professional and really nice guys."
Word of mouth spread across the hospital, and the foundation asked Recycle Frog to come back a third day. They are currently arranging plans to return in the spring.
Mr. MacQuarrie said he likes doing the charity events, adding he feels it's a win-win situation for the company.
"It costs the organization nothing but letting us set up in a board room and putting a few posters up and they get a significant contribution," said Mr. MacQuarrie. "But beyond that, the employees, I think, think it's a really nice twist on fundraising."
Since then, the company held an event at City Hall in support of the Christmas Exchange and will be going back on Feb. 24.
Cashing in on Record Gold Prices
2011.05.04
As the price of gold soars, food and clothing drives are being joined by a new kind of charity fundraiser — gold drives.
Dozens of City of Ottawa employees brought handfuls of their old and broken gold jewelry to work Wednesday to raise money for the Christmas Exchange, a local charity that provides food to the less fortunate during the holiday season.
The event was co-ordinated by Ottawa-based Recycle Frog, a company that buys jewelry containing precious metals from the public and arranges for the metals to be recycled.
David Martinek, vice-president of the company, was on hand at the municipal offices on Constellation Drive with scales and other equipment to help appraise the value of the gold, based on its weight and carat quality.
On Wednesday, the market price of gold was around $1,095 US an ounce. That's more than double the price per ounce five years ago — $434 US.
"We calculate how much the value of this is, we make an offer to the customer," he said. "If they accept it, a portion of that offer goes to the Christmas Exchange."
The customer gets to keep the rest of the money.
Recycle Frog is matching donations on a dollar-for-dollar basis, Martinek said.
Sue Carpenter got her old accessories weighed and found out they are worth $600. She donated 10 per cent to the Christmas Exchange and got a cheque for the rest.
"Great idea to recycle what you don't use and it makes a good donation to worthy cause," she said.
Sui-Ling Leung, director of development and volunteer services for the Christmas Exchange, said Martinek first contacted her group on the social networking site Twitter. He proposed a gold drive as a fundraiser, and a small one was held at the City of Ottawa offices in January. That one got a good response, Leung said, so they decided to hold another one.
She said she knows Christmas is still months away, but her group wants to get a jump on fundraising so it doesn't face a crunch at the end of the year.
"We do get our list of people who need our help, we want to make sure we have the funds available to help them," Leung said.
The Christmas Exchange says it helped 25,000 people last year.
Recycle Frog has recently signed a similar partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society in Ottawa.
The Great Canadian Theatre Company Goes for the Gold
2011.05.04
Whether it was gold or silver, all that glitters was money in the bank for the Great Canadian Theatre Company (GCTC), thanks to their fundraiser held this past weekend.
Supporters of the theatre company and anyone else with coins, jewellery, or silverware they no longer had any use for and were interested in discarding were invited to the lobby of the theatre's 1233 Wellington St. W. location on both Saturday and Sunday. There, Matthew MacQuarrie, president of Recycle Frog, offered free expert evaluation of any scrap gold and silver items brought in, with all values based on international gold prices set that day.
Precious stones or gems were removed before the sale was finalized, and would-be sellers were advised if their items had more value at resale than being sold as scrap.
The fundraiser part of the event came in when owners of the unwanted gold and silver received an offer of purchase on the spot, which they were free to refuse. But if they decided to sell their items to the Ottawa-based metal recycler, though, they received a cheque on the spot for the value of their scrap items, less 10 per cent donated to the GCTC.
GCTC development director Susanne Zorzella said the theatre company was trying the Gold Drive fundraiser for the first time, and promoted the event through newsletters, put up posters throughout the neighbourhood and advertised in their house program, in addition to distributing between 8,000 and 10,000 flyers. And although the Gold Drive was a new type of moneymaker for the theatre, Recycle Frog, billed as Canada's fastest growing and most trusted precious metal recycling company, is busy conducting these fundraisers for other non-profits throughout the city, Zorzella said.
Zorzella said the theatre company saw the fundraising event as providing a service to local theatre supporters, in addition to benefiting the theatre.
"GCTC is somewhat of a commercial hub in the area, and this event offered an excellent opportunity to turn those old things you don't know what to do with into cash. At the same time, you're also benefiting GCTC," she said. As a registered charity, GCTC is responsible for raising one-third of its annual operating budget, which Zorzella pegged at approximatedly $2.5 million, through fundraisers and individual donations.
