We sell unique, handcrafted gifts, accessories and housewares in a setting which helps build connections between artisans those who buy their work. Here are a few things we believe in: High Quality, Unique Products. The pieces we sell are unique—limited edition or one-of-a-kind, hand-picked and handmade. What could be more individual and less mass-produced than pieces by living, breathing craftswomen? Supporting women. Everything we sell is made by women. Women craftspeople the world over are under-supported, and it’s part of our vision to raise awareness about and foster support for women’s creative work. We source directly from women and women’s groups and provide a market for women artists and craftspeople who otherwise would have difficulty finding one. We are committed to developing that market. Promoting artisanship. We appreciate the skills and the stories of the individual behind works of art and craft, and think mass-production is bad for the soul. So we buy and sell handmade pieces, we make those pieces accessible to a wide audience, and we favour organizations which foster the ongoing development of skills in artisans. Sound ethical and transparent business practices. We really believe there’s enough to go around, and we try to do business in a way which benefits everyone involved, and work with partners who do the same. We pay artisans fairly and promptly and deal only with foreign partners who do too; we build long-term partnerships with them, which promotes sustainable growth and hopeful futures; we take concrete steps to address artisan concerns. Sustainable environmental practices. We’d like to save the planet, if possible. We favour artisans using materials and processes which are easier on the environment–we like natural dyes and fibres, recycled and found objects, non-violent silk, reforestation, renewable resources, alternative energy sources.
