The Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Concordia University, is the largest, university-based centre for the study of film animation, film production and film studies in Canada. Each year it accepts some 200 students from across Canada and many other countries into its undergraduate and graduate programmes. They are taught by internationally-known film artists and scholars, all of whom are exceptionally active in their specialties. Although the programmes are oriented towards art and culture, the financial and commercial aspects of filmmaking are also addressed. Film Animation and Film Production are “hands-on” programmes involving intensive aesthetic as well as technical education. The School attempts to strike a balance between practical aspects and purely creative ones, just as it recognizes that art can reflect both social and aesthetic concerns.

As Canada's leading medical research university, McGill has been at the helm of breakthroughs in areas such as as biomedical science, epigenetics, neuroscience and stem cells and regenerative medicine. Recent discoveries include the identification of genes that lead to breast cancer, memory loss, spina bifida and type-2 diabetes. Paving the way toward innovative methods of health science education is also one of the University’s cornerstones. By pioneering a curriculum of physicianship, McGill promotes both the professionalism and healer aspects of the physician. Through the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) – a teaching hospital network of five hospitals, including Montreal Children’s Hospital, Montreal General Hospital, Montreal Neurological Hospital, Royal Victoria Hospital and the Montreal Chest Institute – students and faculty have direct access to patients and clinical situations. Associations and Partners Message from the Director General Villa Maria - A Place to Discover and Adopt! At Villa Maria, we not only strive to support and guide our young ladies as they work toward academic success but are committed to the development of skills and attitudes which will serve them as they face the challenges of life beyond our school. Villa girls develop a strong sense of self-esteem through participation in the arts, their consciousness of social responsibility grows through community service activities and projects, their overall sense of well-being is nurtured through participation in sports, activities, and clubs, opportunities for leadership are many and varied, and friendships that result from such a unique environment are made to last a lifetime. Villa Maria provides every student with the opportunity to experience secondary education in an environment that is caring, and often described as family-like. Our students originate from eighty countries and speak twenty-six languages. Together we share and celebrate the richness and diversity of our shared humanity. Our graduates do exceptionally well when they leave us. They go on to study at the highest levels, and many graduates can be found working in leadership positions in areas such as science, government, business, and the arts. Our graduates remain our proudest legacy and a shining example for each new generation of Villa Maria students. To all our valued parents, alumnae, and friends of Villa Maria, I look forward to meeting you in the very near future.
