Community volunteers built the original rink in the late 1940s; the East Hants Sportsplex was built in 1993 to replace the old and failing building. Through efficient management and several volunteer fundraising efforts the Sportsplex has successfully shown an operating profit each and every year. The current facility consists of one ice surface, one small multi-purpose room and a women's fitness centre. The facility hosts adult hockey leagues, minor hockey, skating club, junior hockey, high school hockey as well as various skating programs for the public. In the off season the facility is available for community use. And such events as fairs, dances, Air Cadets Parade have made the Sportsplex their venue. The facility provides 90 hours of ice time per week, September through March. Minor Hockey constitutes 50% of those hours. The facility also hosts Adult leagues, Figure skating and Can Skate, Public, Adult, Parents and Tots Skates, Noon Pick-up Hockey, High School Hockey (boys and girls), and Junior hockey. The facility is home to Curves For Women, a 30-minute fitness and weight loss center. In the off-season, the facility is available for community use.
