In response to the needs of the St. Vincent de Paul Society in the 1950s, the Little Brothers of Good Shepherd accepted the invitation to open a men’s hostel in Hamilton in 1961. Through our commitment to our mission of “Never Stop Loving” and our willingness to be of service to those in need, we have grown to become the Greater Hamilton area’s largest social service agency. Through our uniqueness and in the spirit of the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd—Charity Unlimited, Never Stop Loving —we endeavour to extend to all, hope, unconditional love, dignity and respect, committing ourselves to compassion, acceptance and understanding of the human condition. Our challenge is to continue to address the needs of the community as we stimulate and encourage personal growth and to risk involvement in social awareness and social injustice. Our work is based on a fundamental belief in protecting and promoting human dignity, equality, progress and potential, which is rooted in our values of availability, hospitality, flexibility, adaptability and dignity of service. Good Shepherd assists thousands of people every year with emergency programs that provide the basic necessities of life such as food and shelter and rehabilitative programs that offer guidance, give hope and restore dignity. We serve troubled youth, abused women and children, the dying, the mentally and physically challenged, the hungry and the homeless. Our ultimate goal is to support people through crisis and assist them in reestablishing healthy and productive lives in the community. Our services are free of cost and are available to anyone in need. All decisions and activities of the Good Shepherd are based upon these defined values as an expression of our Mission, which is rooted in the tradition of the Roman Catholic Church and the teachings of Jesus Christ.
